Unfolded

With Unfolded, photographic artists Daniel Carrillo and Eirik Johnson have worked in direct collaboration to create a series of full and half-plate daguerreotypes depicting the geometric forms of unfolded origami structures and paper airplanes. Both fathers of young children, Johnson and Carrillo have used their collaboration to explore childhood obsessions and playful creativity. Working with the mirror-like and iridescent surface of the daguerreotype plate, the flattened two-dimensional forms take on the illusion of depth and dimensionality. The unique one-of-a-kind works evoke architectural structures, mysterious iconography, and jewel-like graphic formations
