Dynamic Landscapes for the Architectural League NY
“Dynamic Landscapes, South Beach, Washington”, is a multi-disciplinary collaborative effort as part of the Architectural League NY American Roundtable series. The South Beach region of Coastal Washington State, is doubly subject to the forces of water and wind, situated on the most rapidly changing part of the Pacific coastline of the United States and at risk for a catastrophic earthquake and tsunami event. It is also an area of exceptionally rich ecology, including productive fisheries, cranberry bogs, and timber lands. Our team was led by editors Robert Hutchison (architect) and Daniel Abramson (urban planner), with contributors Gregory Hicks (professor of law), myself (photographer), Cory Mattheis (architect), Skip Swenson (policymaker), and Barbara Swift (landscape architect). Our report delves into this ecosystem and community and the current and future challenges it faces.
